John Balsam Associates, LLC

John Balsam Associates, LLC is a for-profit company with 25 years of experience helping tech-based small businesses in the funding and commercialization of their innovative technologies.

At John Balsam Associates, we concentrate on four primary areas:

arrow icon Helping technology-based firms identify appropriate funding opportunities and prepare and submit timely, competitive proposals to federal or state funding programs, with a special focus on the federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

arrow icon Helping clients understand their commercialization options and map out appropriate commercialization strategies for their emerging technologies.

arrow icon Performing the market and competitive research needed to assess the commercial feasibility of new technologies and, on a larger scale, new ventures.

arrow icon Supporting federal, state, and local agencies by working directly to assist and strengthen their small-business clients.

From the beginning of 2008 through mid-2009, Balsam’s involvement contributed to more than $5.8 million in awards through the SBIR/STTR programs and other funding opportunities. SBIR/STTR awards still pending from 2009 alone total almost $5.3 million in Phase I and II proposals.

"I wanted to follow up and thank you for the market research you recently performed for Haun Labs’ unique process of Manufacturing Ceramic Tile From Waste Glass. The final report helped confirm our own assessment of this technology’s potential, but it also enhanced our understanding of our market segments and how to approach them. Most important to me is that the objectivity of the report helped us attract additional research support and even some early investment capital. Your involvement as the market research arm of our efforts has been extremely valuable, and we appreciate your input very much. Thanks again."
